Motability

The Motability Scheme at Chippenham

The Motability Scheme is a national charity that has helped over four million people to gain and enjoy their independence through motoring. The charity has partnered with Chippenham Motor Company to assist motorists with a disability across Wiltshire and its surrounding areas.

The charity depends on us to help its users find the car that is most suitable for them. We will take the time to understand your disability and the vehicle adaptations that may be needed to help you drive safely and in comfort. We also arrange your lease plan and honour all the benefits that it delivers. This includes servicing and maintenance from our expert technicians. Please click here to find out more about how the scheme works.

Prior to applying for the scheme you should find out if you are eligible. To qualify for assistance you will need to be receiving one of a number of government-funded mobility allowances. Click here to visit our Motability eligibility page for full details.
When enquiring or applying for the Motability Scheme you will be helped by one of our scheme specialists who can remain as your sole point of contact throughout the contract. Get in touch with a Motability adviser at Chippenham Motor Company to discuss the scheme and you today.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for disabled people between the ages of 16 and 64, even those with an “indefinite” or “lifetime” award. Disabled children will continue to receive DLA until they reach the age of 16. DLA will also continue to be available for those who were aged 65 or over on 8 April 2013 (20 June 2016 in Northern Ireland).
If you are awarded the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of PIP, you will continue to be able to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair through the Motability Scheme.

What is Motability?

Motability is the charity responsible for the Motability Scheme, which gives motorists with a disability their independence by helping them fund a new vehicle. The charity enables motorists to use the mobility allowance granted to them by the government to cover the cost of a lease for a new car. The agreement also includes the cost for servicing, insurance, road tax and more. Additionally, users can apply for financial assistance so that they can afford the mobility option they need.

Over four million people have been helped in this way since the scheme was set up over 35 years ago. As well as vehicles, Motability provides scooters and powered wheelchairs through partnerships with retailers and suppliers. Chippenham Motor Company is proud to be among them.

As a main retailer for Ford, Kia and SEAT we supply Motability users with a wide range of the latest models. We are confident that any one of these leading manufacturers will include the ideal model for you, and are committed to helping you find it. We can also organise adaptations before the keys are handed over and will always be here for servicing support.

Visit the rest of the Motability pages for information on eligibility and how the scheme works. If you would prefer to speak with an adviser, please call one of our retailers in Wiltshire.

How the Motability Scheme Works at Chippenham Motor Company in Wiltshire

The process of applying to be a Motability Scheme user is straightforward. You will be supported at every stage when you sign up through Chippenham Motor Company. We are here to answer any questions, advise you on the right model, submit your application and service your car as part of the overall lease package.

Before applying you need to find out which models are most suitable for you and your requirements. There may be cars that appeal more than others, but you should consider factors such as adaptations, running costs and the lease payments before making a final decision. If the model and adaptations you need are outside of your budget it is possible to apply for financial assistance.

You can turn to one of our Motability specialists for help choosing a vehicle, and the charity also offers advice on its website here.

When you have found a Motability vehicle, speak to your adviser about test driving it, the optional extras that are available and arranging adaptations. This contact will be there for you for the duration of your lease to help with any matters relating to the scheme.

They will also lead the process of ordering your vehicle and handling the necessary paperwork. Once you have been accepted, your car will be delivered to your retailer on a set day. How long this takes will depend on the model and if adaptations need to be made.

Speak to your nearest Chippenham Motor Company retailer if you have any questions and to discuss becoming a Motability user.

Motability vehicle adaptations from Chippenham Motor Company in Wiltshire

Your Motability Scheme lease covers a variety of the costs associated with vehicle ownership, as well as many different adaptations that may be needed for your car. These adaptations help you to feel completely comfortable at the wheel and make sure you can drive safely.

There are generally three types of adaptations: driving, stowage and access. Driving adaptations include hand controls, steering aids, pedal modifications and electronic accelerators. Car boot hoists and rooftop stowage are among the stowage adaptations, while transfer plates and swivel seats are some of the access adaptations.

It is wise to work out precisely which adaptations you need before making a final decision on a car. Some models may not be suitable for the adaptations required. You should speak to your Chippenham Motor Company Motability adviser for help with this.

You can arrange for adaptations at the start of the lease before the model is delivered. This is the easiest way, as your vehicle will arrive ready to drive away. You may decide that modifications are needed once the lease has started, and in this situation you can request for them to be made. You will need to check with RSA Motability and Motability Operations if you have the proper insurance first.

Whichever adaptations you need, Chippenham Motor Company can arrange them. Our contacts include leading installers who will make the changes with no loss of quality to your vehicle.
